Silica gel is a highly porous, amorphous, non-toxic, non-flammable, odorless, chemically inert substance with high adsorption capacity.
Besides its packed sachet form, it is also available in bulk. There are three colors of bulk silica gel : white, orange and blue.
Orange silica gel is also known as indicating silica gel. It changes color when saturated.
Why use it ?
Silica gel is one of the most commonly used industrial adsorbent.
By adsorbing the water molecules in the air, it will reduce the relative humidity to the levels where condensation will not occur. Accordingly, it minimizes the risk of moisture caused by condensation of water vapor.
It is inert and thus will not corrode or attack other materials. It can be reactivated by heating.
It offers a good shelf life when stored air-tight.
Orange indicating silica gel is cobalt chloride free, thus it is an environmentally safer alternative to the traditional blue indicating silica gel.
It is available in PE bags of 1kg/2kg/5kg and as 25 kg carton boxes or sacks.
Recommended usage:
The optimum required quantity may change as per application conditions.
Under normal conditions, 1 kg silica gel is recommended for 1 m3 closed space.
It is important to keep container air-tight for an effective usage.
Industries used:
Orange silica gel in bulk is used heavily in many industrial sectors. Main areas of usage are transformers, industrial air drying systems, electronic equipments, power distribution units etc..
